Description
'Sea Life' Sydney Aquarium – which is located in Sydney’s Darling Harbour – is one of Australia's most popular attractions. With exciting options, such as helping the aquarists for a day, and learning how to care for our marine environment, to feeding the fish of the Great Barrier Reef in a glass bottomed boat, 'Sea Life' is a journey like no other.
Through 14 themed zones, you will meet over 13 000 unique marine creatures from 700 different species. Search for the shy platypus and discover the graceful freshwater turtles in 'Streams and Billabongs'. At 'Rocky Shores', you will uncover animals that live in harbours and on the fringes of our oceans. Other exciting areas to encounter are the amazing Mangrove Swamps, Dugong Island, Shark Walk and Shark Valley, The Bay of Rays, and many more. The ocean tunnel walk through is an amazing experience, with a vast assortment of marine life swimming all around you. In addition, the interactive touch pool is a beautiful interpersonal experience.
Two beautiful dugongs, huge sharks, penguins, sea dragons, jellyfish, stingrays and scores of colourful tropical fish are just some of the amazing creatures you will encounter, as you continue your journey through this wonderful attraction.
Conservation and Education
'Sea Life' take conservation and education very seriously. Part of their commitment is to the education of the public, through interaction and hands on experiences that raise public awareness. Their celebration of the sea, its creatures and habitats form the basis of their passion and conservation endeavours. 'Sea Life' also rescue sick and injured sea creatures, raise funds for conservation projects around the world, and educate visitors on marine issues, including whaling, and shark-finning.
At 11.30am and 2pm daily, 'Sea Life' conduct 45 minute behind the scenes tours, where you will visit a research laboratory, feed the fish, test water pH and oxygen levels, and observe the food preparation for the thousands of sea creatures cared for in this wonderful aquarium.
The ultimate interactive experience at 'Sea Life' is the Shark Reef Snorkel, where you and your whole family can be submerged in a safe, see-through enclosure, swimming mere metres away from sawfish, reef sharks, and tropical fish. Snorkels and wetsuits are provided, and no previous experience is necessary.
