Things to do in Fremantle - Fremantle Lunch Cruise - Rottnest Island Tours
At the mouth of the Swan river and around 20km down the road from Perth lays the port town of Fremantle. While now swallowed by Perth’s urban sprawl, Freo definitely retains its own distinct flavour. The historic port area was rejuvenated to host the America’s Cup in 1987 and contains a host of National Trust buildings. While probably not as rough and tumble as in former days, the still operational port, nearby Notre Dame University and vibrant music and arts scene ensure that Fremantle retains a boisterous atmosphere that you should be all too happy to join in with.
There are plenty of things to do in Fremantle, whether it’s taking in some fine museums and galleries, relaxing on a Swan river lunch cruise back to Perth, getting a bit of adrenaline pumping through your veins with an open ocean jet boat ride or a day tour out to Rottnest Island. The sea breeze, better known as the Fremantle Doctor, should help keep things a little cooler than in neighbouring Perth during the hot summer months. But you’ll still appreciate a cold drink at the end of the day on a veranda in one of the many stylish pubs on offer.
