Description
Discover Rottnest from Perth or Fremantle
The gorgeous Rottnest Island – Western Australia’s premier island destination – is only a short 90-minute ferry ride from Perth. The Discover Rottnest Island tour allows you to explore the 50-km of roads on Rottnest Island and visit the many natural attractions, including some of the 63 stunning beaches that make up this world-famous coastline. Rottnest Island is definitely a family-friendly destination, with so many activities on offer to suit all ages and interests. Not only is the island full of natural beauty, it also has 6,500 years of history behind it – from the native Indigenous inhabitants, and the European settlement until now.
The tour begins in Perth, where you will set off for Rottnest Island by ferry, crossing only a 19km stretch of water. Once you arrive on Rottnest, you will board the air-conditioned coach to be taken on a 90-minute tour around the island. This tour will take you to some of Rottnest’s most popular and stunning locations – such as the Wadjemup Lighthouse and West End. At West End, you will get off the coach to stroll along the boardwalk, where you can enjoy the breathtaking views of the aquamarine waters of the Indian Ocean, from the lookout point. Your friendly tour guide will provide informative and entertaining commentary throughout the tour, telling you about the island’s amazing culture and history. You will experience the beauty and calm of its many pristine white sandy beaches and private bays.
Rottnest Island is a protected A-Class nature reserve and home to many unusual species of flora and fauna. Keep your eye out for the small marsupials called quokkas. The quokka is native to Rottnest Island and is only found in a few locations in Western Australia. This cute little guy looks like a tiny kangaroo – about the size of a domestic cat. You may also see a colony of New Zealand fur seals and there is plenty of colourful marine life, living under the crystal clear water (Please do not feed the animals, as they can get very ill from food designed for human consumption).
Your choice of lunch is totally up to you; there are so many options available. For example, you may wish to find a restaurant or eat a sandwich on the beach, or you can pre-book a buffet lunch at Karma Rottnest as an optional extra on the tour.
With a heart full of passion for the area and a relaxed, calm feeling, you will leave the tranquillity of Rottnest Island, and board the ferry once again, back to Perth in the late afternoon.
