Description
Darwin to Alice Springs (One Way)
Beauty and excitement abound on this amazing three-day Safari from Darwin to Alice Springs. You will encounter many natural wonders and historically rich places on your one way journey through Australia’s gorgeous outback. Some of the exciting highlights included on this tour are the Katherine Gorge, the Mataranka Thermal Pools and the Daly Waters Pub (home to the first international airport in Australia). At Alice Springs, you will have the chance to see one of the country’s most bizarre phenomenon, the stunning Devils Marbles. Your journey – through some of the world’s most stunning terrain – will remain in your memory forever.
Day 1
Your amazing journey through the Aussie outback starts early, when you are collected from your Darwin accommodation to begin a captivating journey to Alice Springs. The sights of Darwin City dwindle, before a fascinating and ever-changing landscape of bright hues opens up before you.
Spending the afternoon at the picturesque Katherine Gorge – or Nitmiluk, as it is known to the Indigenous Jawoyn people – you will have the chance to traverse the Katherine River by boat cruise or canoe (*boat cruise and canoe incur an additional fee. Canoe option is seasonal). This amazing sandstone gorge has been carved by the river and is truly a sight to behold. After your relaxing afternoon at this idyllic spot, you will continue travelling, before stopping near Mataranka at your overnight camp.
Day 2
To start the day, you will stop at the famed Mataranka Thermal Pools. Relax and rejuvenate in the beautifully warm, spring fed waters, which are at a constant temperature of 34 degrees Celsius. Take in the gorgeous scenery of natural Australian flora as you soak your worries away in this stunning oasis. For a slice of Australian outback life, the Daly Waters Pub is essential. Once a rest stop for drovers and explorers, it is still a welcoming destination for travellers, providing great food and a friendly, Aussie outback service.
Your final destination for the day will be the Banka Banka Cattle Station, which was the first operational cattle lease in the region. Enjoy the company of your fellow travellers as you enjoy your dinner and camp for the night at this historically important site.
Day 3
Take in the scenery as you pass through the charming Tennant Creek area. Further along, you will encounter the fascinating and seemingly gravity defying Devils Marbles, or Karlu Karlu as it is known to the Indigenous people. Here, you can explore this perplexing land formation and take in its atmosphere of spiritual significance. Later on, you will pass through the Tropic of Capricorn on your way to Alice Springs, and the end of your memorable Safari.
The Darwin to Alice Springs three-day Safari is a truly relaxing and enjoyable way to take in Australia’s unique, stunning and historically rich sites. If you are travelling to Alice Springs from Darwin anyway, why not experience the thrill of this unique and fun expedition? It sure beats flying!
