Description
Discover Alice Springs and hear about the history and heritage of the town, how it has evolved to become the central hub of the Australian outback and host to the thriving tourism industry. Many essential services for the surrounding areas are headquartered in Alice Springs. The Alice Springs School of the Air is one such service. This school, which was established in 1951, provides essential education via radio to primary school aged children living in remote locations throughout the Northern Territory.
Next, you will visit the Alice Springs Telegraph Station which was built in 1872 to relay messages between Darwin and Adelaide and is the first European settlement in Alice Springs. From there you will be welcomed into the headquarters of the highly respected Royal Flying Doctor Service, where you will be led on an interactive journey to learn the history of this invaluable provision.
The Alice Springs Reptile Centre, which is home to the largest reptile display in Central Australia, is your next destination. Get to know the famous Terry, the saltwater crocodile, and visit his close relatives at this exciting centre.
No visit to Alice Springs is complete without a stop at Anzac Hill. This majestic memorial is dedicated to the many men and women who lost their lives during WWI, as well as all those who serve and have served in the Australian Armed Forces. From here you can enjoy a breathtaking panoramic view of Alice Springs and the East and West MacDonnell Ranges. The tour ends at 6pm, giving you plenty of time to have dinner and get back to your hotel for a relaxing evening.
