Other Melbourne Experiences
If you're visiting the capital of Victoria, you have the chance to skydive over two of its most famous attractions: the Great Ocean Road or St Kilda Beach. Whichever option you choose, you're sure to feel the ultimate adrenaline rush as you soar high above the pristine waters.
Our Melbourne skydiving trips only require four hours out of your day, so you will have plenty of time to sightsee and explore other areas of the city. Keep reading to learn more about skydiving the Great Ocean Road or St Kilda Beach and decide which experience is right for you.
Great Ocean Road Skydiving
The curving coastline of the Great Ocean Road has attracted visitors from around the world since it was built in the early 20th century. While most people choose to drive or bike along the Great Ocean Road, skydiving is another fantastic way to witness its one-of-a-kind beauty.
You'll start the day by meeting your instructors at the drop zone, located in Barwon Heads. Before you embark on your beach skydive, you'll hear some essential safety information from your experienced guides and have the opportunity to ask questions. From there, you'll start to suit up and board your plane.
When you've reached the appropriate altitude, your instructor will let you know when it's time to jump - and that's when the magic begins. Once you step out of the plane, you'll feel a euphoria like none other as you soar back toward the ground at a height of 15,000 feet and a speed of 220 kph. When your guide opens the chute, everything around you will slow down, and you can absorb the gorgeous landscape below.
Not only will you admire the picturesque curve of the Great Ocean Road, but you will also be treated to views of other world-famous sights such as Bells Beach, Port Phillip Bay and the Melbourne CBD.
When you're back on solid ground, you'll realise that you've just had a life-changing experience that most people haven't. As part of your tour, you have the chance to purchase a DVD that captures the highlights of your dive.
The Great Ocean Road Skydive departs daily, except for Tuesdays. Guests must be at least 12 years old to participate, and divers under 18 years of age must have parental consent. Skydive the Beach and Beyond can cater to disabled participants (conditions apply, so consult with a representative before booking).
St Kilda Beach Skydiving
If you're interested in a skydive closer to Melbourne city, consider the St Kilda Beach Skydive. This unique excursion is the closest of its kind to the hustle and bustle of Melbourne, letting you take in the sights of the beautiful beach as well as the array of nearby buildings and homes.
Once you exit the plane, you'll freefall for the first 60 seconds, hitting speeds of 200kph at an altitude of 14,000 feet above the ground. Even if you've never skydived before, there's no reason to be nervous. Your expert instructor will be with you every step of the way, ensuring that your tandem skydive Melbourne is entirely seamless.
As you cruise down back toward the earth, take some time to admire the melding of natural and manmade beauty. Check out Melbourne's beaches and parks juxtaposed with the skyscrapers and modern infrastructure. Nearing the end of your flight, you will land gracefully in a park in the nearby suburb of Elwood.
Before you head back to your accommodation, don't forget to pick up a DVD copy of your jump. While your skydiving experience may fly by, you can watch the video when you get back home and remember your carefree moments high in the sky.
The St Kilda Beach Skydive operates daily all year long from the St Kilda Marina. Because skydive conditions depend on the weather, we recommend that you book your jump for one of your first days in Melbourne so you can reschedule or get a refund if necessary. Children over 12 years of age may participate, as long as they have parental consent if they are under 18 years old.
Both skydive trips are run by Skydive the Beach and Beyond, a reputable company with a perfect track record when it comes to dives. The staff are trained in making new skydivers feel comfortable and ensuring they have a fantastic first-time jump.
Skydive the Beach and Beyond has successfully orchestrated thousands of jumps for people of all ages and experience levels. The company complies with all regulations set forth by the Australian Parachute Federation (APF), so you can rest assured that you're in safe hands.
Skydiving Melbourne is one of the most unique ways to experience the vibrant city. No matter which jump you choose, you'll leave your skydive with a fresh perspective and a rejuvenated outlook, with lifelong memories that you can share with family and friends.
