Description
Your day begins early as you head to Nitmiluk National Park and Kathering Gorge. Be entertained by your guide as he provides a historical account of the region on the way. Enjoy morning tea (own expense) before reaching the Adelaide River War Memorial. Surrounded by beautiful gardens this memorial commemorates the many men and women lost during WWII.
Embark on the amazing Nitmiluk National Park, commonly known as Katherine Gorge National Park. The park spans more than 292,000 hectares and boasts rugged landscapes, thundering waterfalls and boundless flora and fauna. Nitmiluk National Park is the ultimate place for adventure and nature enthusiasts. Throughout the park you will encounter numerous pieces of spectacular Aboriginal rock art expressing the profound culture and spirit of the Aboriginal people.
The Nitmiluk National Park landscape dramatically transforms with the change in seasons from wet to dry however no matter what the season you will be sure to encounter refreshing water at Edith Falls (Leliyn). If conditions permit then you can enjoy a swim in the waterhole beneath the falls bordered by paperbark and pandanus trees.
After a stop at Edith Falls you will enjoy a two hour cruise exploring the popular Katherine Gorge. The Katherine Gorge is one of the most frequented locations in Australia's Top End and is a spectacular network of thirteen gorges engraved from billion year old sandstone that integrates the many rapids and falls flowing from Katherine River. Cruising at the heart of Katherine Gorge you will be among freshwater crocodiles, beautiful bird life and incredible Northern Territory scenery. Between May and September you will enjoy a delicious buffet lunch on board the Katherine Gorge Cruise in the beautiful nature setting. Outside of these months lunch will be served in the lush and shaded outdoor setting at the Nitmiluk Visitor Centre.
