Adelaide Dolphin Swim

We went on the swim with dolphins cruise from Adelaide and all 4 of us had a great time! The staff were very friendly and knowledgeable. We were fortunate enough to be able to swim with bottlenose and common dolphins. The day was overcast and windy so it made the swim a little less enjoyable due to the condition of the sea but this is a risk you take when you swim in the ocean. Thanks for a great day!

    Hello there
With the dolphin swim, is it essential that a wetsuit is worn by participants? ie can you choose to do the swim without the wetsuit? I am looking to book for January so it wouldn't be too cold!!

    Comments

Hi Jo, January is a great time to go, but I'm afraid wetsuits are compulsory as part of Temptation Sailing's insurance

Is there an upper age limit for swimming with the dolphins you give childs age restrictions but not adults

    Comments

    Hi Maggie,

There is no upper age limit for the dolphin swim however there are a few physical requirements:

    • You need to be able to get on and off the boat and into the water with little assistance
    • A floatation line is used during the swim, so upper body strength is required to hold onto the line whilst the boat is moving at a slow pace.
    • The swim is not recommended for people who are not comfortable using a mask and snorkel and having their heads in the water, if this is the case we suggest the dolphin watch may be more enjoyable.
    • The dolphin swim is not available for those who have a pace maker, unfortunately the shark shields can cause disruptions.

Hi - Are you operating between Christmas and New Year?

    Comments

Yes the dolphin swim boat cruise in Glenelg just out of Adelaide does operate all summer however the period between Christmas and New Year is now almost fully booked. This is the busiest time of the year so if you do wish to book please email us with your preferred dates and we can let you know what is available.

    Hi
Thinking of doing this experience with family who are here from England. But they are a little worried because they have heard about the Sharks in Australia. Can you reasure us that this is a safe activity in that reguard.
    Thanks
    Ian

    Comments

Hi Ian, sharks are present in all oceans and where the dolphin swim is conducted is no different. The best indicator that sharks are not present is when the dolphins come over to the boat, dolphins will move away from an area sharks are very quickly. Please note that three high powered shark shields are used which send out electronic signals to deters sharks. This does not deter the dolphins as dolphins use sonar to hunt not electrical signals to find prey. For more information on the sharks shield please visit www.sharkshield.com.au

Is weight an issue when swimming with dolphins. Is there a weight restriction?

    Comments

Hi Matthew, there is no weight restriction for swimming with the dolphins and there are wetsuits available for all sizes. The only restrictions for the Dolphin Swim are on those that:

    • Have a pace maker (The sharks shields can interfere with the pace maker)
    • Anyone who is not capable of holding onto the floatation line while being towed slowly behind Temptation.
    • Anyone who is not capable of climbing three runs of the ladder on the back of Temptation.

    hi,
can you accomodate for someone with limited ability to swim?
A paralysed arm, was able to swim before, and has full use of one arm and both legs with use of crutch. Aged 23.

    Comments

Hi James. You should be absolutely fine doing the dolphin swim with Tempation Sailing in Adelaide as long as you can hold on to the flotation line connected to the stern of the boat. On boarding the boat you will be given a full length, 5mm wetsuits, which acts as a full body flotation device and you cannot sink with this on. Here's some information explaining what happens on board the boat:

Over the years we have refined our briefing and techniques to accommodate the most nervous of dolphin swimmers, people who have never snorkelled before or those who aren't strong in the water:

    • On boarding Temptation you will be given a full length, 5mm wetsuits, which acts as a full body flotation device ( cannot sink)
    • You are given a briefing (about 15 minutes) on what to do and not do when entering and being in the water.
    • Colour visual charts are also used to help show what to do and not do when entering and being in the water.
    • Fully experienced crew will demonstrate how to use your mask and snorkel and can assist when trying masks on.
    • All swimmers must hold onto a flotation line connected to the stern of Temptation.
    • If at the end of the briefing and snorkel demonstration you are still not confident in entering the water you can stay onboard and do the dolphin watch. We will then refund the difference of $40.00 back to you.

Three of us want the experience but only one keen to get into the water. Can two of us watch from the boat and only one of us swim?

    Comments

Hi Christine, yes, you certainly can do that. You will see if you click on the prices tab on the listing page  there is a price for people who are just watching and a price for people who would like to swim with the dolphins. In your situation you would just need to book 2 x Wild Dolphin Watch and 1 x Wild Dolphin Swim.

Hi there, the Temptation Sailing dolphin swim looks unreal, it has always been a dream of mine to swim with dolphins, but i am a little nervous. Is it dangerous swimming with the dolphins and has anyone been injured before?

    Comments

Hi Carl. Dolphins are a very peaceful and gentle animal who don't pose a threat to humans at all. In fact, if you do the dolphin swim in Adelaide with Tempatation Sailing you'll find the dolphins actually love interacting with you and are careful and respectful of any humans swimming nearby.
