Description
Port Stephens, Nelson Bay Dunes and Dolphins
Relax and enjoy the beautiful Hunter Region town of Port Stephens and its suburb – Nelson Bay – traverse some sand dunes in a 4WD and a sandboard and take a cruise to meet some dolphins! What more could you want?
Your day begins with a morning drive across the iconic Sydney Harbour Bridge, where you will have a spectacular view of Australia largest city. Your scenic route along the coastal highway will lead you to the Stockton Bight sand dunes where the real fun begins! Board your modern 4WD vehicle for an exhilarating one hour 4WD and sand-boarding experience. The 4WD adventure will see you gripping the seat in front of you as your experienced driver traverses the dessert-like terrain – nose up in the air one minute, then plunging downwards towards the sandy ground the next. Surf down a slide of sand when you stop to sand-board and explore the dunes. This is a fascinating area with an almost Martian terrain, and well worth the visit.
Nelson Bay is located inside the mouth of Port Stephens, and is an idyllic setting. Take in the long stretches of white beach, and watch the Bottlenose dolphins swim through the pristine royal blue waters of Port Stephens on your cruise. Bottlenose dolphins are fascinating creatures, known for their curiosity and enthusiasm, so it is almost guaranteed that you will see them during your cruise. Nelson Bay’s dolphin cruises allow you the rare opportunity to view these fun-loving and intelligent creatures in their natural habitat. You can hop on the boom net for an exciting ride and maybe even a chance to meet a dolphin up close. Alternatively, relax on deck and soak up the sun, while you watch these gorgeous mammals going about their day. Upgrade to the lunch option to enjoy a delicious meal with fresh local produce served on board the boat. Finish your day with free time to explore Nelson Bay village.
This tour is an excellent way to enjoy both the excitement and beauty of this stunning region, which stands out as a key example of why Australia is frequently referred to as a paradise.

HI Woon Yee Lee. Thanks for taking the time to offer your feedback and I'm sorry to hear you didn't get to see the dolphins up close and personal on your Nelson Bay & 4WD tour from Sydney. Unfortunately with all wildlife tours like this one where there are no lures or bait used there are no guarantees of seeing the animals in their native environment. I'm glad you got to see them in the distance but I'm sure it must have been disappointing only seeing the fins. On this particular tour dolphins do usually come up close to the boat so it sounds like you were just unlucky on the day you travelled. I do hope you enjoyed the rest of the tour including the four wheel driving and sand boarding? As a gesture of goodwill Everything Travel Group would like to offer you a gift voucher worth $50 that you can use towards the cost of any other activities listed on our Australian or New Zealand activity websites. If you are no longer in the country then you can gift this voucher to a friend or relative who might be travelling over here at later date.
Once again, thanks for taking the time to leave your comments.
