Cradle Mountains Tours Tasmania - Canyoning Activities in Tasmania

Situated smack bang in the middle of Tasmania is the magnificent World Heritage listed Cradle Mountain and Lake St. Clair National Park. The Overland Track is one of the most fêted walks in Australia, if not the world, with its spectacular and rugged landscape and stretches from Cradle Mountain in the north to the southern tip of Lake St. Clair. Glaciers have helped create any number of craggy peaks, deep valleys, waterfalls, lakes and tarns throughout the park, vegetated with alpine forests and button grass plains.

The most popular area of the park is around Cradle Mountain and Dove Lake in the north, where most begin the Overland Track, and where day trippers can get their fill with a number of shorter walks, or even crank it up a notch with some canyoning. Accommodation in this area can be found in log cabins and can have some cute visitors in the shape of wombats, pademelons and possums when the sun goes down.

Most begin the Overland Track here, and it can take anything from 5-8 days depending on how many side trips you take along the way, and the unpredictable weather! There are a number of huts along the way where you can take shelter, but it’s first in, best dressed so make sure you take a tent and plenty of supplies to last the time you’ll be on the Track. A welcoming fire waits for you at the lodge in St. Clair at the end of the Track.
